I have a bit of a rant for you today – I’m ill! It’s the start of the cold season and guess who has one -.- The worse thing is we got given a new project yesterday, but I am … Continue reading
Have you ever walked past and heard something strange? Or turned to your best friend and come out with something that doesn’t make sense? We had a project over summer which was to keep our eyes and ears peeled for … Continue reading
I don’t know about you guys, but my taste in music depends on my mood, location and just what I’m doing that day. I’ll listen to anything as long as it isn’t screaming at me, and yes, I have been … Continue reading
Firstly, I swear to Cheesus that I will attempt to start blogging again everyday, especially since actual book writing has gone down the drain since starting uni again this year. The tricky part is that I have made this decision … Continue reading
Sometimes I think I’m a terrible student for not clubbing constantly… but then I see this and feel better about life 😀
From the moment the family holiday was announced a few months back, I was excited. We hadn’t been abroad in 6 years, and I couldn’t wait for the sun and all inclusive food and drinks (there were free slushies… best holiday ever!). The only problem? I’m terrified of flying.
This may stem from the fact that a few days before my first ever plane journey, one of my teachers showed us a slide show of crashed and deaded planes… So yeah, I’m not a great flyer. Anyway, after having a fantastic holiday a cold, tired and grumpy me sat on the plane home, writing down everything wrong with flying. Here are my top few rants, enjoy 😉
1. I’m 91% sure I’m going to die.
We’ve all heard the stories; terrorist attacks, emergency landings gone wrong, a disembodied left phalange. One of the airlines even lost an entire plane!!! I get nervous okay? So sue me!
2. Screaming Kids
Okay, this is probably on everyone’s list, but its just so bloody annoying. I get that the parents can’t do anything, and that babies cry uncontrollably, but man alive does my sympathy go when you have to listen to it for 4 hours straight. It makes me want to scream and cry too…
3. It’s Flippin’ Freezing
They have taken air con to a whole new level. I don’t even know why they need air con, there is frost on the glass, that’s how cold it is already!!!!! I’ve gone on holiday to a hot country, so no, I did not pack jeans and woolly jumper, so I’m in shorts and a vest top, but do they have blankets to give out? No. But its okay, you can buy a comforter for £5…
4. Why So High?
Why do we have to fly so high? Yes, its all about air pressure and sciencey things… and we probably wouldn’t appreciate planes flying right over our houses every hour of the day… but it would make me feel so much better about emergency landings.
5. Why Do the Emergency Slides Have to Look so Cool?
Dilemma: I really want to use the inflatable slides that eject from the sides of planes if you crash into water etc… but to use them, you have to crash land first… Why can’t we just use the inflatable slides on departure? It would make me feel a lot happier about flying…
6. When You Can Smell the Food Trolley, But the Hostesses are Taking Ages to Get it Down the Isle
This applies to restaurants too. There is no greater torture in this world than knowing that bacon sandwich is within reaching distance, but knowing that all you can do is watch other people eat whilst you wait to order.
7. These Kids are Still Screaming
As I make notes for this very blog post, the same kids are still crying and screaming. I can hear them through my iPod. I actually turned round to tell one off for kicking the back of my chair… but it turns out that douche is actually a fully grown adult instead.
8. I’ve Just Discovered How Appalling My Handwriting is
Not having my laptop, I’ve been using good old fashioned pen and paper to write these notes, ready for typing up later, and it appears my hand has forgotten how to write. The letters are all different sizes and small and squished together. As an art student, I am appalled. Sigh.
And after all that I leave you with this thought…
Happy flying everyone!!!
I realise that loads of people will be writing reviews etc, but I thought I’d do one anyway because the film was just so brilliant. Me and two friends managed to snap up some last minute tickets the TFIOS fan screening last night, and man, am I glad we did.
Let me tell you why this movie is so great, its the first, and probably only movie I will ever write about; the adaption is 95% spot on.
Obviously, a few scenes have to be cut because you can never fit a whole book into a movie, but it didn’t actually affect the storyline in the movie. In fact, the only scene I was disappointed they missed out on was the yelling match between Gus and his parents before they go to Amsterdam, but they covered it so well it didn’t feel like anything was lost :L
And the dialogue? THEY ACTUALLY QUOTED THE BOOK! SO MANY TIMES THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY SAY IT IS THE FILM OF THE BOOK. Especially the scene where Hazel and Augustus talk properly for the first time and he whacks out the cigarette packet, that was spot on :L It’s the little things that make me happy :L
Also, all of the actors can actually act. So many movies are ruined by lack of emotion or someone being overly dramatic, but these performances were beautiful and realistic, so much so that I actually cried. I didn’t even cry at the book, but by God when Hazel was reading Gus’s letter at the end did I cry!!!!
This adaption was just so perfect, so well done to the cast, directors and John Green (even though your scene got cut in the end). And if you haven’t already, watch this movie!!!!!!!
Now that I’ve actually got some time to myself, I’ve decided to do a little renovation on the Hello World front – which means, NEW COVER!!!
I’ll be honest, I’ve never been too fond of the old one. But I was in a new craft shop in Bedford yesterday (I got way too excited yesterday, running round buying props for photography and everything) and it gave me an idea. I love doing paper cut outs, and have used them for a number of graphic projects during the year, so I thought maybe I could use it in the cover.
Which is what I did! It was fairly simple to make, I drew the characters and objects onto pages from a book and then cut around them using nail scissors (if you do any sort of craft, nail scissors are amazing for cutting out fiddly bits!) Then I scanned all the parts in and assembled them on photoshop, adding drop shadows and a final gradient 🙂 simples! I hope you guys like it! I’m hoping I can use this style again for other books 😀
Just out of interest, which one do you guys prefer, old or new? 🙂
Hey folks, long time no see!
I wanted to post up this awesome photo shoot we did for graphics the other day 😀 The back story is that, 3 days before our end of year portfolio hand in, they decided to give us a three day magazine project. Oh the stress.
Luckily, I landed with an epic group and in one day we managed to get the photography, copy, layout and paste up design done and dusted. We found this amazing vintage charity shop just before Steep Hill that had everything in the back, chairs already set up, mirrors on every wall (which was interesting, I kept having to yell duck whenever another team member ended up in the back of a photo). :L Vintage items where everywhere! It was such a fun shoot, and we owe a lot to St. Barnabas Lincolnshire charity shop for letting us shoot there 🙂 And also a massive thanks to our models Holly and George 🙂
Okay, so I realise I haven’t posted in a while… and I didn’t intend to post till I’ve got my uni work in order (which is why this will be a quick one) but oh my God I just had to show you this… Firstly, I love the song Royals, and secondly I love the cup song from Pitch Perfect…. so this is just brilliant :L Hope you like it 😉
